Why are most people lovely and then one ......

I have had the misfortune of receiving ONE Email out of the hundreds I have received giving support and encouragement that has been rather nasty. It quite upset me and for a moment almost made me consider giving up. Then I thought one rotten apple should not spoil the rest. I give my time and effort freely, give credit on all occassions to helpful people. Attempt to check what I can along the way. Much of the data is researched personally by ME, not just a collection of data presented by others. Clearly though when someone is happy to share their data, I am very happy to receive it, and of course they know more about their immediate branch than I could ever do. They inturn are very excited to see their data and photographs appear on the website. After all I can then concentrate on new finding new information and progress the Greatheads in other directions.
I am often unable to access data from other countries without great expense, although the internet is gradually helping to provide copies of more an more primary sources. One question that constantly haunts me performing a one name study is when and where do you stop when collecting data. My rule is usually in the female line I attempt to collect their marriage, childrens names and then "kill" them off. However in doing this often more data from census appears, or as often happens someone writes to me and says "thank you my relation was married to a Greathead and now through your website I know who and a lot about her family, here is some information about her husbands family" I, in turn return my thanks and very gratefully receive the offered data. You never know when that very piece of information will help identifying the owner of a will, medal or some such record. Similarly with the male line finding maternal grandmas and aunts and their families have often solved mysteries I had almost given up on. OK, I am now feeling better and am off my soapbox. Now I just need to find out how to remove certain people from the website without taking the information from my personal database. Please continue to exchange with me I love hearing from people (well almost everyone) together we will solve the mysteries of the Greathead family. Thank you one and all
