Four generation photograph

I was delighted to receive a four generation photograph from my 3rd cousin in Canada. The ladies shown are:

Ellen Hutchinson née Hart (the mother of the wife of my great great uncle),
her daughter Georgina Hart Lamb née Hutchinson (the wife of my great great uncle), her daughter Emily Douglas Birks née Lamb (my 1st cousin twice removed)
and her baby daughter Olive Marion Birks (my 2nd cousin once removed)

We believe the picture must have been taken around 1913 as sadly the grand old lady died in 1915

What a find, thank you Peter

London Metropolitan Archives

Visited the newly refurbished LMA and found seven marriages. I solved the riddle of the George and Sarah marriages. George Bartholomew Greathead married Sarah Ecken on 11 June 1822 and George Greathead married Sarah Read on 27 May 1797. All the marriages will be included in the next update

Website updated - 1 May 2008

I think computers are wonderful when everything works!

But.... This months update has been a nightmare. Many of the pages being updates manually as the I kept getting an error message "trashed response received" from UK2. Oh boy all done to stretch my capabilities and patience. If you discover any problems, please let me know. I have checked as carefully as I can but.......

Newspapers has been the main source to which I have resorted this month. Much of the information has been added to individual records but I do still have some that I need to ensure I have the correct person before I allocate data. I have been amazed at the number of Greatheads who have spent time in jail. I have found entries for all the variants where in the newspaper they are recorded as GREATHEAD. Does this mean they really were Greatheads?

Maybe the coming month will bring and easier time - Next update due 31 May 2008 - hopefully!!!

Do you know Raymond Greathead

Sadly today I was informed of the death of Richard Greathead son of Charles Henry and Brenda Mary née Clubbe Greathead. His death will be recorded and an account of what sounds like a momentous funeral for a verr popular, funny man on the webste when it gets updated tomorrow.

Even sadder was the fact that the family tried very hard to find Raymond his brother who was last heard of in Sydney in Australia. If you know where he is do please ask him to contact his family in England?

Newspapers - such a wonderful source

Many apologies, I have been rather under the weather for a while and not updated the blog for ages. Feeling a lot better now.

I have however been plodding through some old newspaper websites and will be adding much of the information over the coming weeks. I have huge amounts of information on James Greethead otherwise known as Leotard Bosco. He certainly led an amazing life and I hope to be able to create a few pages of his lifestory before too long.

Newspapers never fail to amaze me, I can get lost in their wonders. I discovered the world walking tour of Beresford Greathead, the mysterious death of David Greathead, highway robbery of a handbag, stolen tea from Mary Greathead as well as many BMD.

All will be entered in the next website update
